The President of Mongolia will travel to Cuba this week to attend the Summit of the G77 plus China on Science, Technology and Innovation and will meet with the Cuban President

The President of Mongolia, His Excellency. Mr. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, will travel this week to Cuba at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, in his capacity as President of the Group of 77 plus China (G77), to participate on September 15 and 16, 2023 in the extraordinary Summit  on Science, Technology and Innovation of that organization of developing countries.

This is the third Summit of this important organization that brings together 134 developing countries and the second to be held in Havana, after the South Summit held in the year 2000.

The Mongolian President will also meet with the Cuban President to exchange views on the historical relations of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect and cooperation between both countries, which share the will and interest to continue strengthening their relations and bilateral cooperation. .

Cuba was the first country in the entire American continent to establish diplomatic relations with Mongolia in 1960 and also the first in the entire region to open a diplomatic mission in Ulan Bator, in 1962. Cuba is the only country in Latin America and the Caribbean that has an embassy in the Mongolian capital and Havana hosts the only Embassy of this Asian country in our region.

Since 1963, Cuba has offered a modest program of free university scholarships for Mongolian students. In 60 years, more than 120 Mongolian students have graduated in Cuba in specialties, such as medicine, stomatology and physical culture.

Cuba highly appreciates the sustained and traditional international position of Ulaanbaatar in the United Nations General Assembly and other international forums in support of the island against the 61 years old economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.
