President of South Africa thanks Cuba for sending specialists to assist against COVID-19

Pretoria, May 14, 2020. In statements to the press, the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, accompanied by the country's Minister of Health, Dr. Zweli Mkhezi, expressed his satisfaction with the prompt response of Cuban President Miguel Díaz to Bermúdez, to the request that he made by phone to send Cuban specialists to assist against the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Ramaphosa was particularly grateful for the magnitude of the Cuban Medical Brigade, made up of 217 health professionals, which include family doctors, epidemiologists, biostatists, electromedical, among others.
According to the South African president, the Cuban specialists, who have just completed a 15-day preventive quarantine period in South Africa, are now ready to be deployed in the country's 9 provinces.
He concluded by highlighting the special relations that unite Cuba and South Africa, the legacy of the great work that Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela did together, "and we are very proud to have continued that tradition," he said.
