Nicosia, 5 March 2023. The recently concluded Presidential Council of the World Federation of Trade Unions, which took place in Nicosia, capital of Cyprus, between 3 and 4 March, approved a Resolution in solidarity with Cuba that condemns the unjust and inhumane blockade imposed by the USA against the Caribbean island and demands the immediate surrender of the territory occupied by the illegal naval base of Guantanamo.
The World Federation of Trade Unions, founded on 3 October 1945 and represented on all five continents, fights for workers' rights, aspires to the unity of all workers against monopolies and imperialists and for peace and progress.
The more than 50 delegates from 32 countries who constitute the collective leadership of the World Federation of Trade Unions, representing its 105 million workers, adopted the following document:
Resolution of the WFTU Presidential Council in solidarity with Cuba.
The Presidential Council of the World Federation of Trade Unions, meeting in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 3 and 4 March, expresses its full solidarity and support to the heroic people of Cuba facing decades of imperialist blockade.
The WFTU supports and fights for the unconditional implementation of the non-negotiable right of the Cuban people to decide for themselves the present and the future and to continue with determination the proud path of socialist revolution without the attacks of monopolies and bourgeois governments.
The class-struggle trade union movement has always been and will always be on the side of the Cuban people in their struggles against imperialist policies and interventions, fighting the imperialist attempts to force heroic Cuba to kneel down to their bloodthirsty plans for the region which are carried out under the pretext of "freedom" and "democracy".
The Presidential Council of the WFTU demands the immediate withdrawal of the anti-democratic and anti-people blockade against Cuba and the immediate restitution of the territory of Guantanamo to the Cuban people.
