Pretoria, September 22, 2020.- This September 22, 2020, is the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Cuba and the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1995, both States have worked together in the interest of diversifying and expanding bilateral cooperation.
We proudly highlight the bilateral cooperation that has been developed in the health area that began in 2005, with the signing of the first Health Cooperation Agreement between both countries.
As a result of this Agreement, since 2005, a Cuban Medical Brigade made up of 20 collaborators began to provide services in Eswatini and continues to this day, with wide recognition from the population and local authorities.
Another 19 Cuban doctors arrived in Eswatini on August 19, 2020, in response to a request from that government, to accompany national efforts to combat the Coronavirus pandemic. Additional Cuban health professionals include specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine, epidemiology, microbiology, and intensivists.
We also highlight the cooperation between the two countries in the area of proffesional training. Until 2019, 22 professionals from Eswatini have graduated from Cuban universities, including in Medicine (9), Sports and Physical Culture (8), Primary Education (1), and Higher Education (4).18 Eswatini students in different specialties are currently studying in Cuba.
On the occasion of the official visit to Cuba made by His Majesty King Mswati III last year, at the invitation of Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez, both Heads of State expressed satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations, as well as their interest in continuing to strengthen political ties and collaboration.
During that visit, other potential areas were identified to expand cooperation in the areas of medical services, biotechnological products, and professional training, among others.
Cuba appreciates the firm position of solidarity that the Kingdom of Eswatini has maintained, materialized in the support for the resolutions against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government, annually adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, the African Union and other international forums.
Cuba and Eswatini will continue to develop and strengthen their excellent relations of friendship, cooperation and solidarity.
