Screenings:

Brazil (21/05)

O Menino e o Mundo / The Boy and the World (2013), directed by Alê Abreu

A boy leaves his hometown in search of his father, who left the family in search of work in the big city. On the way, the boy comes across a wide range of characters and life experiences for which his imagination, while fertile, had left him unprepared. This encounter with "real life" gives rise to a far-reaching journey of discovery and self-knowledge.

Spain (23/05)

Modelo 77/ Prison 77 (2022), directed by Alberto Rodríguez

Taking place from 1976 to 1978, during the so-called Spanish Transition, the plot is inspired by the real attempted prison break from Barcelona's Cárcel Modelo by 45 inmates. The fiction follows two of the prisoners: an aged inmate who has passed through several prisons and a young accounting assistant, awaiting trial in 1977 for embezzlement.

Portugal (28/05)

Salgueiro Maia/The Implicated (2022), directed by Sérgio Graciano. Salgueiro Maia, a man considered a hero and the purest symbol of the Portuguese Carnation Revolution of 25 April 1974. Fernando Salgueiro Maia, the anti-hero, the product of an academic and military training, was a man who knew how to think about the future, follow ideas, discuss them.

The film portrays the stories that have not yet been told about this captain of April. Small revelations that allow us to understand where the moderation, courage, education, and firmness with which he always presented himself publicly came from. These were the key to the success of the Portuguese Carnation Revolution. A fictional story based on historical facts, personal stories, intimate revelations, real emotions of those who accompanied the captain throughout his life. A film that reveals the other side of a mythical character and pays tribute to the man, the student, the soldier, the father, the friend, and the unique captain of April.

Peru (30/05)

La Pena Maxima/Operation Condor (2022), directed by Michel Gomez

Based on the novel of the same name by Santiago Roncagliolo. A man is murdered in Lima during the Argentina 78 World Cup. Félix Chacaltana, a government administrative employee, investigates the murder and discovers an international plot of kidnapping, disappearance, and torture. Félix also begins to discover the secret life of the country. Although Peru is apparently about to return to democracy, Peruvian opponents and persecuted Argentines begin to disappear in military operations throughout the city. Félix tries to report him, but no one believes him. Or maybe no one cares because there is a World Cup. Félix doesn't know it, but he is about to lose his sexual, political, and even football virginity.

Cuba (04/06)

Habanastation (2011), directed by Ian Padrón

The experiences of two friends and classroom colleagues during the celebrations in Cuba for May 1st, International Workers' Day. A story that reveals the Cuban reality, from the everyday life of a couple of children in today's Havana.

La Tinta is a humble neighbourhood with an imaginary name, close to the Plaza de la Revolución. This will be the main stage where Mayito will discover the other Cuba in which Carlos lives, far away from his home in Miramar. After getting lost in the crowded parade, the boy arrives by accident in the peripheral community. There he meets one of his classmates with whom he will live an experience that will change both of their lives, forging an incredible friendship impossible to forget.
