Pretoria, 12 July, 2019.- The Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS) joins millions of people around the world to condemn the latest Trump Administration aggressive measures towards Cuba which aims to extend its illegal blockade against Cuba. The Helms Burton Act of 1996 is now being codified by the Trump Administration to permit lawsuits to be filed in USA courts against Cuban entities.
This action will have social and economic impact on the Cuban people, affecting the ownership of homes they are now occupying, the schools attended by their children, polyclinics where they get medical care. It intends to seize the wealth of the Cuban people’s including, infrastructure, agricultural land, industries, and mining and energy resources.
The Trump Administration seems to have adopted a generalised embrace of seeking to throw the world into chaos. They disregard International Law through fragrant unilateralism and hegemony. We are aware that Trump and his war mongers are developing an elections tactic with the USA Presidential elections fast approaching by provoking war and attempting to create instability across the world but in particular in Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba.
FOCUS believes in the Universal right of Nations to peruse their own development. We reject these moves by the Trump Administration which aims to suffocate the Cuban Revolution.
