Press workers honored in Cuba

The importance of the work of press workers is highlighted today in Cuba where the celebration is framed in the 131st anniversary of the founding of the newspaper Patria by the National Hero, José Martí.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel referred on his Twitter account to the press on the island as "the one that sheds light on inefficiency and brakes to development, the one that recognizes effort and results, the one that honors Patria every day, with ethics and truth as principles".

For his part, Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, after congratulating those who work in this sector, stressed "their loyalty to Marti's legacy, and their deep commitment to the Homeland and to our people".

Likewise, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero recalled the date and congratulated "the professionals of this sector, who carry out their work with passion and honor, and keep us informed about the truth of Cuba and the world".

On March 14, 1892, Martí founded in New York City the newspaper Patria, which as he stated, had as its purpose "to gather and love, and to live in the passion of truth", and to unite Cubans and Puerto Ricans around the idea of independence, and has become an ethical reference for the country's journalists.
