Kingstown, February 4. The Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, highlighted the selfless and supportive assistance of the government and people of Cuba to his country, as he proposed the Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve Cuban Medical Brigade.
Addressing the National Assembly on the occasion of the presentation of the Budget Plan for the year 2021, the Caribbean leader made a comment especially aimed at the Cuban contribution in that area and in the confrontation with Covid-19.
For her part, Senator and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Keisal Melissa Peters, in her remarks in Parliament, explained that in recognition of that effort, the Cabinet of St. Vincent and the Grenadines unanimously agreed to propose the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Situations of Disasters and Serious Epidemics for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, noting that the proposal was accepted by the Nobel Prize Foundation on January 27.
The text approved by the Vincentian Cabinet recognizes the work of the Cuban Medical Brigade "Henry Reeve" in dealing with natural disasters such as those that occurred in Pakistan and Haiti or in confronting the dangerous Ebola epidemic that affected several African countries. It also highlights the work in several nations of the world - including St. Vincent and the Grenadines - in the fight against Covid-19.
Finally, he notes that "the exemplary service of the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade has touched many lives not only in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, but in countries around the world. Its service to humanity and the selflessness of those who make up the brigade undoubtedly make the organization a unique example of humanitarian excellence within our region, and a great credit to world peace."
