Kingstown, 18 de septiembre de 2025 — The Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, on Wednesday welcomed a group of Cuban engineers who have joined the ongoing works to modernize and expand the Argyle International Airport (AIA).
During the meeting, Juan Carlos Quintana, Director General of the Cuban Airports and Air Navigation Services Company (ECASA), assured the Prime Minister that the Cuban specialists will work diligently alongside their Vincentian counterparts to advance the development of the airport.
Cuban Ambassador to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Carlos Ernesto Rodríguez Etcheverry, emphasized that projects of this nature continue to strengthen the bonds of friendship between both peoples and governments. He also reiterated that Cuba will always be ready to assist Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with the very best it has to offer.
For his side, Prime Minister Gonsalves expressed gratitude to Cuba for the gesture of sending this group of engineers, noting that their work will be vital in SVG’s aspiration to have a more modern and passenger-friendly international airport. He also shared several anecdotes about the construction of the AIA, in which hundreds of Cuban engineers and workers took part, and fondly recalled the prominent role of Commander Fidel Castro in this project, stressing that without his personal involvement, it would not have been possible to accomplish.
The arrival of these Cuban collaborators reaffirms the commitment of both nations to continue working together on strategic projects that contribute to the development of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (Cuban Embassy to St. Vincent and the Grenadines/Cubaminrex).
