The Progressive Party of Working People of Cyprus (AKEL) signs joint statement by more than 100 communist and workers' parties around the world in support of Cuba.

They stand up for the people of Cuba.

“Stop the escalation of aggression against Cuba,” says AKEL, together with 100 other communist and workers' parties around the world.

Stop the escalation of aggression against Cuba. This is the title of the statement co-signed by AKEL together with more than 100 communist and workers' parties from around the world, declaring their support for the Cuban people and country.

The parties unreservedly condemn the new escalation of aggression by US imperialism against Cuba's sovereignty and independence and against the rights of the Cuban people, while commenting on the US president's decree characterizing Cuba as an “extraordinary and exceptional threat” to its security. "This is nothing more than the creation of a cynical pretext by US imperialism, based on a pile of lies, to try to hinder Cuba's fuel supply and the economic, financial, and commercial embargo it has imposed for more than six decades, with the greatest possible damage to the living conditions of the Cuban people.

This escalation of US aggression against Cuba, they stress, accompanied by the threat of imposing arbitrary extraterritorial measures, constitutes a flagrant and unacceptable violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, an affront to the Declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, and a threat to world peace and security.

"The new level of US aggression and intimidation against Cuba is an inseparable part of the broader plan of US imperialism to impose its hegemony in Latin America and the Caribbean, in the spirit of the Monroe Doctrine, a plan that also includes the recent strategic-military attack against Venezuela with the kidnapping of its president, Nicolás Maduro, and threats against Colombia, Mexico, and other countries in the region. We express our solidarity with socialist Cuba and call for broader international solidarity in defense of its independence and sovereignty," they emphasize.

They are moving forward for the people of Cuba.
