Red Crescent of Iran reaffirms its commitment to contribute to the recovery of damages caused by tornado in Cuba.

Tehran, February 26, 2019. On February 20, the Ambassador of Cuba, Mr. Alexis Bandrich Vega was received at the headquarters of the Red Crescent of Iran by its President Ali Asghar Peyvandi.

During what was the first exchange between our Embassy and this institution, expressions of admiration and willingness to cooperate with each other were revealed, as well as ideas for greater interaction between the Cuban Red Cross and its Iranian counterpart.

One aspect of relevant importance was the commitment expressed by the Persian entity to contribute to the recovery of damages caused by the tornado that affected several municipalities in Havana on 27 January.

The Red Crescent of the Islamic Republic of Iran has vast experience and prestige in emergency situations and disaster management.

The Islamic Republic of Iran informed the International Committee of the Red Cross and the League of Societies of the Red Cross on 4 July 1980 of its decision to adopt the Red Crescent instead of the Red Lion and Sun, as an emblem and distinctive symbol of the sanitary service of the armies. Following that decision, the Iranian National Society also changed its name and its emblem, henceforth being called the "Iran Red Crescent Society".
