Pretoria, 28 January 2020.- In front of the US Embassy in Pretoria, a new demonstration took place in rejection of the aggressive US measures against Cuba, Venezuela and Iran.
The protest was organized by the Communist Party of South Africa, the Confederation of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), the National Civic Organization (SANCO) and also participated in it, members of the Association of Friendship with Cuba (FOCUS) English) and workers from the Police Union (POPCRU), the Miners' Trade Unions (NUM), and the Health and Education Workers (NEHAWU), among others.
During the colorful and energetic demonstration, the participants condemned the policy of the United States, in violation of the norms of International Law and reiterated solidarity with the Cuban government and people.
Different speakers called on the Trump administration to stop exporting wars; respect the sovereignty of states and their self-determination, respect human rights; as well as the resolutions of the United Nations relating to international law, including the resolution approved annually by the UN General Assembly against the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against Cuba for more than 60 years, even more exacerbated by the current one United States government.
This demonstration joins several others that have taken place in recent months against the United States Embassy and Consulates in South Africa, in which various political, union and social forces and organizations in the country have emphasized their rejection of the escalation of the blockade and aggressive actions against Cuba by the Trump Administration and the firm support and solidarity with the Cuban Revolution.
