Relations run deep between Cuba and South Africa

Pretoria, 18 June 2024 - The Cuban Deputy President Salvador Valdés Mesa was received by the General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Solly Mapaila.

The meeting was also attended, on the Cuban side, by the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Tania Margarita Curz Hernández, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, the Director for Sub-Saharan Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Luis Amorós Núñez, and the Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Enrique Orta González. On the South African side, the First Deputy General Secretary Madala Masuku, the Second Deputy General Secretary Dr David Masondo and Deputy National Chairperson Thulas Nxesi also participated, as well as representatives from the Friendship Association with Cuba, FOCUS.

The meeting highlighted the excellent level of party relations and acknowledged the strength of the ties of solidarity between Cuba and South Africa. Solly Mapaila reaffirmed the SACP's support to the Cuban Revolution and condemned the island's inclusion on the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

The Cuban leader thanked the SACP and FOCUS for the continued support and solidarity towards Cuba over the years.

During the exchange, the strength of the historic friendship between Cuba and South Africa, two countries separated geographically, but united by history, brotherhood and solidarity, was extremely noticeable.
