Good afternoon and thank you for joining us today.
Just a few meters from where we stand, the United States Mission is holding a sham event against Cuba, in full contravention of the rules that govern the use of UN premises.
It is a clandestine gathering absolutely alien to the UN agenda. Unfortunately, the UN Secretariat has not prevented this from happening, despite our repeated warnings.
Hiding themselves, the US has organized a gathering of representatives of a small, selective and discriminatory group of Member States, to spread lies about Cuba.
This politically motivated event will feature a panel of individuals on the State Department payroll that are either convicted criminals or have ties with terrorist organizations that have caused the death and suffering of Cubans.
This charade is an attempt to deviate attention from a simple fact: The US is acting as an international delinquent, enforcing collective punishment on the people of Cuba. They are inflicting immense suffering upon the whole population of a peaceful nation.
They want to impose a false narrative about my country, to justify their policy of aggression on the Cuban people, as if any of pretexts raised could justify criminal conduct by the most powerful nation on Earth.
The only real and legitimate issue before Member States, the one that has an item on the agenda of the General Assembly is the US economic blockade against Cuba and the necessity of putting an end to such abuses.
This issue will be considered by the GA on the coming 27 and 28 of October, in the open, not in hiding; with all Member States, not a selective few; in a formal session, not an obscurece gathering.
The US government knows very well that the vast majority of countries will once again support our claim, because Cuba is not a threat, the blockade is.
This travesty taking place close by is intended to damage and undermine a totally legitimate exercise: the consideration of the UN resolution against the US blockade, that the General Assembly will consider, for the 34th time, on October 27 and 28.
The US Government and their puppet panelists will present a false narrative to minimize the severe impact of the maximum pressure policy and the unprecedented reinforcement of the US blockade against our people.
While manipulating the noble cause of human rights, the US is in fact trying to undermine our right to self-determination and our sovereignty.
Their true goal with the collective punishment on Cuba is to break our people’s will and subvert our constitutional order. It is an old and unaccomplished objective of the US Government with regards to Cuba.
Cuba is here, not in there. The representatives of the Cuban people are here, not with them. And the vast majority of the UN is with us, just as they will be once again on October 27 and 28.
If anyone in the US Government thinks that they will break the Cuban people’s determination and unity, they are wasting their time, efforts and no small amount of resources.
We will never bend our knees. We will not surrender.
