Ronaldo Veitía, emblematic Cuban judo coach, passed away

Havana, December 5, 2022.- Ronaldo Veitía, emblematic Cuban judo coach, died this Monday in Havana while he was admitted to the Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical Surgical Hospital. His contribution to the greatness of Cuban women's judo assures him a place of honor in the history of our sport.

According to JIT, in recent days the state of health of the prominent coach had deteriorated, which is why he had to be hospitalized. The complications associated with diabetes and the high cardiovascular risk marked the severity of it until its fatal outcome.

Veitía, a world-renowned coach, under his command, Cuban judokas have obtained numerous world and Olympic crowns since the 1990s.

For his tireless work, he received the Order of Sports Merit and many other awards.

"We share the pain with family and friends of this battling patriot and faithful to his principles," the president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), Osvaldo Vento Montiller, lamented on his Twitter account.
