Saint Kitts and Nevis and Cuba express their willingness to continue strengthening bilateral relations.

Basseterre, January 7, 2025. The Right Honorable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Economic Development and Investment of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, received the Cuban ambassador, Giuvel Orozco Ortega, on Wednesday morning.

During the cordial meeting, which took place at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, the excellent state of relations was reviewed and the willingness of both governments to continue strengthening them, in the bilateral and multilateral spheres, was ratified, based on the existing potential in various areas of cooperation and opportunities to expand exchanges and mutual support in international organizations. The Foreign Minister thanked Cuba for its historic contribution to the training of young professionals and its support for the health system through medical cooperation.

The two representatives also discussed various issues on the international agenda, including the conflict between the United States and Venezuela and its consequences for the Latin American region, especially the Caribbean. Foreign Minister Douglas emphasized St. Kitts and Nevis' call for peace and the adherence to the rule of law, as enshrined in the United Nations Charter. The Caribbean diplomat expressed his regret for the loss of human lives and conveyed the condolences to the Cuban government and people, as well as to the families of the victims.

For his part, the Cuban ambassador reaffirmed his people's steadfastness in the face of threats and strongly condemned the US aggression against Venezuela, as well as calling on the international community to confront this act of state terrorism that threatens international peace and security and seeks to impose a new doctrine of domination in Latin America and the Caribbean.
