Salvador Valdés holds a fraternal meeting with Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa

Pretoria, 26 may, 2019.- The first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, Salvador Valdés Mesa, held a cordial meeting with Cyril Ramaphosa, president of South Africa.

The Cuban representative conveyed the congratulations of the government and people of the Island to the newly inaugurated South African leader, wished him every success in his responsibilities as head of the country and thanked South Africa's firm support for Cuba in the battle against the blockade

President Ramaphosa emphasized that Cuba had been one of the special guests at the inauguration for his outstanding role in the overthrow of Apartheid and the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation that unite the two countries at present.

They exchanged extensively on the current regional context in Latin America and the African continent, as well as on the complex international scenario. They agreed on the importance of continuing to advance in the strengthening of bilateral economic-commercial relations for mutual benefit, to bring them to the same level as the excellent level of political relations.

The South African leader extended an affectionate greeting to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and comrade Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and assured that in the shortest possible time he will honor the invitation he received for a visit to Cuba.

During the meeting, which lasted for one hour, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ana Teresita González Fraga and Cuban Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson also participated on the Cuban side.
