Canberra, Australia. September 26, 2026. The Cuban film *Habanastation*, directed by Ian Padrón, was successfully screened in Australia on September 19 and 25, 2026, as part of the Latin American Film Festival 2026, with showings held in the cities of Adelaide and Sydney, respectively.
The screenings drew an excellent audience turnout—particularly from members of various Latin American communities—who received the film enthusiastically, highlighting its humor, sensitivity, and profound human message. The Adelaide screening attracted over fifty attendees, while the Sydney session was one of the most well-attended events of the festival, according to the organizers.
In conjunction with the Sydney screening, the Australian Cuban Friendship Society (ACFS) promoted a petition addressed to the Australian Parliament, urging Australia to maintain its traditional vote at the United Nations against the economic blockade imposed on Cuba and to call for Cuba's removal from the unjust list of State Sponsors of Terrorism. This initiative complemented the ongoing solidarity actions the ACFS carries out in support of the Cuban people.
The Embassy of Cuba in Australia extends its gratitude to the ACFS—particularly its Adelaide and Sydney branches—for their steadfast support, solidarity, and commitment to promoting Cuban culture in Australia. Their collaboration was essential to the success of these activities and serves as a testament to the close bond of friendship between the two peoples.
The screening of *Habanastation* at the Latin American Film Festival 2026 reaffirms the presence of Cuban cinema in international cultural arenas and helps strengthen artistic exchange and the promotion of the island's cultural identity in Australia.
