The second edition of the Iberoamerican Film Festival in Cyprus has been inaugurated

The inauguration of the second edition of the Ibero-American Film Festival in Cyprus was held last Tuesday night, 21 May 2024. This event was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Ibero-American embassies accredited in the country (Brazil, Cuba, Spain, Peru and Portugal), the Cervantes and Camões Institutes, and the Cyprus Film Friends Association. This year, the country to which the festival was dedicated was Brazil.

This important initiative opens the way for a cultural exchange between Cyprus and Ibero-American countries. Through cinema, the audience in Cyprus can learn more about the culture of each of these countries, thus bringing them closer to the Ibero-American world.

In the auditorium of the Cine Studio of the University of Nicosia, Brazil was the host country for the opening ceremony. The film screened was ‘O Menino e o Mundo’, by director Alê Abreu, followed by a cocktail reception for the audience. The festival was attended by the general public, several ambassadors and formal guests.

More screenings are scheduled for the coming days, presented by the rest of the embassies. This year's Cuban choice is ‘Habanastation’ (2011) by director Ian Padrón, and will be screened on 4 June at 20:00. Admission is free (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
