On Sunday, June 2, the second meeting of the Association of Cuban Residents in the South African province of Gauteng was successfully held. More than 40 people participated in the event, including the relatives of Cubans residing in this city.
The Ambassador of Cuba, Cro. Rodolfo Benítez, exchanged with the audience about the current situation in our country, in particular the results of the electoral process, the march of the national recovery after the passage of Hurricane Irma, the climatic situation and damages caused by tropical storm Alberto, as well as the current state of Cuba-US relations, among other issues.
The space also served for the Cuban delegation that makes a working visit to the country, composed of Rolando Macias, Director of International Relations of the Ministry of Construction and Jordys Cabañas, Director of Human Resources of the UNECA, offered participants an update of the plans of construction in Cuba in the short and medium term. For his part, the Coordinator of the Cuban Brigade of the UNECA in South Africa, Engineer Luis Cantero, offered an overview of the work carried out by our collaborators, and their positive results, for which they have wide recognition of the authorities and the brother people South African.
The meeting also discussed the new immigration measures put into practice in Cuba as of January 2018, and reported on the efforts being made to further strengthen the ties of the largest of the Antilles with the Cubans residents abroad.
During the exchange was formally presented the new Directive of the Association of Cubans living in South Africa, chaired by Cristina Florez-Fourie and also composed by Kenya Debeila, Yeline Carnero and Carmen Avilés, who will work on a proposal to update the Statutes of the Association.
