Senator from the Left Group Expresses Solidarity with Cuba
Warsaw, April 8—Waldemar Witkowski, a senator from the Left Group in the Polish Senate, expressed his solidarity with the Cuban people in light of the critical situation they are facing due to the energy blockade imposed by the United States.
Along with Senator Joanna Sekula, Senator Witkowski was briefed by Cuban Ambassador Ibete Fernández Hernández on the hardships suffered by the Cuban population due to the tightening of the energy blockade and the measures taken by the government to alleviate the difficult situation.
The diplomat explained the illegality of this measure, which threatens the lives of thousands of Cubans prevented from receiving medical care due to prolonged power outages, as well as the proper functioning of the country, which depends on fuel to operate basic services.
Both senators expressed their willingness to take concrete actions to involve their institution in the solidarity initiatives taking place around the world to support Cuba.
Senator Witkowski is chairman of the Senate Education Committee and also chairman of the Labor Party. During the meeting, he recalled his visits to Cuba, particularly the one he made during the World Festival of Youth and Students in 1978.
