The Cuban Ambassador to Seychelles held a fruitful working meeting with Cecille Kalebi, Principal Secretary and Sophia Rosalie, Senior Specialist of the National Institute for Culture, Heritage and Arts of Seychelles. Tomás Méndez Parra, Minister Counsellor of the Cuban diplomatic representation in the country also participated.
During the meeting, possible areas of cooperation were identified, including exchanges between their respective National Libraries and Archives, the conservation and restoration of heritage, as well as artistic education and exchanges between music, plastic and dance artists of the two countries. They also discussed the celebration of the First International Heritage Congress, which will take place in May in Havana, Cuba.
The Seychelles is one of the smallest countries in the world with a total area of 455 km², consisting of a group of 115 islands located in the Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar. Its population is approximately 100,000 and its cultural richness is the result of an interesting mix of peoples of different races, cultures and religions of African, European and Asian origin.
The Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts is the institution in charge of guiding policies in the field of culture, heritage and the arts for the preservation, protection and promotion of the country's cultural heritage, officially instituted during the 36th edition of the Seychelles Kreole Festival on 23 October 2021.
