Seychelles-Cuba Friendship Association celebrates its Annual General Meeting 2024

Victoria, 9th June._ The Seychelles-Cuba Friendship Association (SECUFA) held last Saturday its Annual General Meeting at the Cuban Embassy, coinciding with the first anniversary of its reactivation in June 2023, under the premise of continue fostering the historic ties of friendship and solidarity between the peoples of Seychelles and Cuba. 

The meeting was attended by members of the Executive Committee and a representation of the membership of the Association, under the leadership of its president André Pool, who presented the balance of the activities carried out; among them, the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Cuban medical collaboration, the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, interviews for Cuban radio and television, the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and statements in support of the lifting of the blockade and the removal of Cuba from the illegal list of State Sponsors of Terrorism. 

At the meeting, the participants contributed and discussed ideas and initiatives for the coming months, among which was launched the call for a donation of medicines and medical supplies for the Cuban public health system, as a sign of solidarity and support in the difficult circumstances the island is going through as a result of the intensified U.S. blockade.

On behalf of Cuba, Ambassador Martha Hernández Caneiro, thanked SECUFA members for the permanent brotherhood demonstrated, highlighting the recent call to the U.S. government to remove Cuba from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

At the event, an acknowledgment was awarded to Andre Pool for his sincere friendship and successful leadership of the solidarity movement with Cuba in Seychelles and another recognition to all SECUFA members for their contribution to the development of the ties between the two nations.
