Santo Domingo, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) Dominican social movements announced today a meeting to support the 5th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, CELAC,which will take place from January 21 to 25 in Punta Cana.
The event organized by the Dominican Coordinator of trade unions, social, peasants, popular, youth, femininist and solidarity organizations.
The meeting to be held next 23 and 24 at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), will be attended by more than 400 delegates, including sister organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean, and will be attended by intellectuals and artists from the region, informed the organizers.
In a press conference, the spokeswoman of the Coordinator, Juana Ferrer, leader of the National Confederation of Peasant Women, stated that the voice of the people will raise for sovereignty, self-determination, the defense of peace, unity and the integration of the Patria Grande and against imperialism.
That meeting has great significance in a moment when is coming to power a new U.S. president, Donald Trump, who has spoken out against progressive projects in the region, Ferrer said.
