Johannesburg, October 29, 2025.- As part of the program of activities for the “Week Against the Blockade” in South Africa, comrades from the Movement of Solidarity with the island gathered today at The Forge to reiterate their support for the people of Cuba and together witness the international community's overwhelming rejection of this cruel and illegal policy.
Notable participants included representatives of the South African Communist Party, the ANC, COSATU, the Communist Youth League, SASCO, as well as university students.
The Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, exchanged with those present about the devastating effects of the blockade against our people, giving concrete examples of the economic damage caused by this policy over more than 60 years. He also thanked the South African people and government for their unwavering solidarity with the island, showing the world that Cuba is not alone and can count on the support of its African brothers and sisters.
The vote in the United Nations General Assembly on the resolution demanding an end to the blockade obtained majority support, despite pressure and slander from the US State Department. 165 countries voted in favor, 7 against, and 12 abstained. It was a victory for the people of Cuba, a victory for the peoples of the world.
