Cape Town, February 9, 2026.- Comrades and friends of Cuba in South Africa gathered tonight at the University of Cape Town to reaffirm their solidarity with the people and government of Cuba, particularly following recent threats by Donald Trump's administration against Cuban sovereignty.
Members of the Friendship Association with Cuba in the city also paid tribute to the 32 Cuban heroes who gave their lives defending Venezuelan sovereignty during the imperialist aggression on January 3.
In his speech, Cuban Ambassador Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo thanked FOCUS for their support throughout all these years and said that international solidarity shows the world every day that Cuba is not alone.
He also explained the extent of the new measures applied by the US government and the impact they have had on our people. He assured, however, confidence in victory, because the Cuban people are and always have been resilient.
The Venezuelan ambassador to South Africa, Carlos Feo, as well as Global Sumud Flotilla member Yasemin Acar were also present, in defense of the Venezuelan and Palestinian causes, respectively.
Leaders of the Communist Party and COSATU in the Western Cape province conveyed strong messages of support.
