Pretoria, 25 January 2026.- As part of the global day of action against the blockade, Cubans living in South Africa and friends in solidarity with Cuba gathered at the iconic Union Buildings, at the foot of the Nelson Mandela statue, to defend Cuba's sovereignty and independence.
There was certainly no shortage of messages of Viva Cuba! and Down with imperialism! as well as the feeling of Cubanhood and defence of the homeland, and condemnation of Washington's threats against the people of the island, an unwavering support for the principle of self-determination and sovereignty of the Cuban people.
Cuban Ambassador Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo thanked his compatriots for reaffirming the principle of never giving up, and the South African friends for reiterating their support and solidarity with the Cuban Revolution.
Union Buildings was the meeting point after a motorcade drove through the streets of Pretoria, with Cuban flags waving in the air, along with messages of solidarity with the island and condemnation of the US blockade.
