Solidarity with Cuba in Warsaw
Warsaw, April 12, 2026: Cuba’s ambassador to Poland, Ibete Fernández Hernández, held a meeting with friends of Cuba in Poland and representatives of left-wing organizations who stand in solidarity with the island as it faces the energy blockade imposed on January 29 by the U.S. government.
An audiovisual presentation was shown to highlight the international rejection of these inhumane policies worldwide and the activism of the solidarity movement with Cuba, primarily in Europe. In this regard, we conveyed the gratitude of Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla to the peoples and governments that have decided not to leave Cuba alone in this situation.
Furthermore, the Cuban diplomat outlined the main consequences for the Cuban people resulting from the energy blockade, including: prolonged daily power outages, shortages of water and liquefied gas, which make performing household chores a struggle.
More than 96,000 Cubans, including 11,000 children, are awaiting surgery due to the lack of electricity, despite the efforts of health institutions to find solutions. More than 16,000 patients in need of radiation therapy and 2,888 who depend on hemodialysis are affected by the suspension of services that require a stable power supply—to name just a few.
Those present expressed their rejection of the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, exacerbated by the energy blockade, and agreed to continue working to expose the cruelties of this unjust policy in Poland, as well as to promote initiatives to support the Cuban people.
