Australia Solidarity with Latin America (ASLA), condemns the recent announcement made by the current United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, imposing sanctions on Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel.
This action constitutes and affront to International Law. It is a violation to the fundamental principles of solidarity among nations and shows a deep contempt towards Cuba’s sovereignty. It represents a continuation of imperialist policies to attack the revolution the Cuban people defend.
It is the United States government the direct responsible of the suffering of the Cuban people, imposing an illegal, criminal and immoral economic blockade on the island.
ASLA stands in solidarity with President Miguel Diaz Canel and the Cuban people.
We call on the community to also stand in solidarity and take action to defend Cuba’s sovereignty.
We demand the United States government to lift the blockade; take Cuba off the list of countries that sponsor terrorism and return Guantanamo to its rightful owners, and stop all hostilities against the Cuban people.
