Solidarity with Venezuela

Article by Yasser Mussa:

Some say that we got bigger problems than to be thinking about Venezuela.

But I am a school teacher.

Our work is to make connections.

I teach African and Maya history to first form students. On their last census 56% of Venezuelans identified themselves as black or indigenous.

Their country sits a top trillions of dollars in oil reserves.

The people and government of Venezuela granted Belize $400 million in access to PETRO-Caribe funds.

Two weeks ago the countries of the Caribbean including Belize made it very clear that we do not support the escalation of pressures and actions by the US on Venezuela.

The guiding principles that CARICOM outlined especially respect for sovereignty are most precious and valuable to us at these our final hours facing 10th April.

To my students I say, that we want our region to be a ZONE of PEACE. No to War. Intervention is never the answer.
