Pretoria, 27 April 2024 - South Africa today celebrates 30 years of independence, of the end of the opprobrious apartheid regime, which for more than 40 years kept the South African people under its cruel yoke. Thirty years after that unquestionable victory, tribute was paid in the Union Buildings lawns to all those who fought and gave their lives to conquer freedom.
The Cuban Ambassador Enrique Orta González participated in the commemoration of this important date. There, he had the opportunity to greet South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor, to whom he conveyed warm greetings from the Cuban people and government, while expressing the will to continue strengthening the ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between both peoples and countries.
In his speech, Ramaphosa recalled Nelson Mandela, when he said on 27 April 1994: "South African heroes are legends for generations. But it is you, the people, who are our true heroes".
