South Africa commemorates 167 anniversary of the birth of National Hero José Martí

Pretoria, January 28, 2020.- On the occasion of commemorating this Tuesday, January 28, the 167th anniversary of the birth of the Cuban national hero José Martí Pérez, the members of the Cuban state mission in South Africa along with a representation of the Cuban community South African residents and diplomats from the Embassy of the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, celebrated homage to the Apostle at the Cuban diplomatic headquarters in the capital city of Pretoria.

The occasion was propitious to remember the validity of the Martian ideology; as well as for the announcement and signing of a declaration in repudiation of the vandalism against busts of José Martí, which occurred recently in Havana, with which the Cuban State Mission joins the multiple acts of relief to the Master that have taken place throughout the island.

An audiovisual was projected where it was possible to appreciate, in the magisterial words of the historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, how the principles of justice, humanism and anti-imperialism have been materialized in the work of the Revolution, as well as the value of the extensive work literary that bequeathed.

The Ambassador of Cuba, Rodolfo Benítez Verson addressed passages from Martí's life contained in the book of his author “The New York Footprint in José Martí”, which documents the Apostle's passage through that city, in which he spent 15 years of his life and prepared the war for the definitive independence of Cuba from Spanish colonial rule.

The placement of a floral offering next to the Martian tree planted in the Embassy and the exhibition in the Salon "Oliver Tambo" of the Embassy of a sample of posters entitled "Unity and Anti-Imperialism in José Martí", which is part of the graphic collection of the Organization of Solidarity of the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America (OSPAAAL); were other actions carried out on the day to commemorate the iconic date.
