Pretoria, 21 March 2026. —Members of the Cuban Embassy in South Africa, together with representatives from the various Cuban cooperation brigades, and Cubans livings here, marked the 30th anniversary of the arrival of the first health specialists in the country with a friendly game of softball.
Since their arrival in 1996, these professionals have worked tirelessly to strengthen the South African healthcare system. This initiative has been fundamental in improving healthcare in disadvantaged communities. This collaboration has facilitated the exchange of knowledge and left a lasting legacy in the training of healthcare professionals in South Africa.
In a very Cuban atmosphere, with baseball, dominoes, caldosa and the Van Van music group, the event celebrated not only achievements in healthcare but also the friendship between Cuba and South Africa, symbolized by the relationship between Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela.
