Pretoria, 15 October 2026. — The General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP), Solly Mapaila, condemned the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and expressed his heartfelt support for the Cuban people during this difficult period.
“We call on Congress to send humanitarian aid during this very difficult period Cuba is going through, in which the US blockade has intensified… Cuba needs us today,” said Mapaila in his address to the 15th National Congress of COSATU.
The statement constitutes a further expression of the historic solidarity of the South African communist and progressive movement with the Cuban Revolution, as well as its rejection of a policy that exacerbates the difficulties faced by the Cuban people and violates their right to development.
The Cuban Embassy in South Africa is deeply grateful for the words and the call from the Communist Party of South Africa, and reiterates that international solidarity remains a fundamental source of strength for the Cuban people.
#CubaIsNotAThreat, the blockade is.
