South African doctors express its strong support for Cuba

Pretoria, 9 June 2026. — The South African Medical Association (SAMA) and South African doctors who graduated in Cuba have expressed their unconditional support for the island in the current context.

SAMA issued a statement expressing its deep concern over the humanitarian and health impact of the economic blockade imposed on Cuba by the US government. In its statement, it denounces the serious consequences of these measures, particularly for the most vulnerable sectors of the population such as children, pregnant women, the elderly and patients with chronic illnesses.

For their part, a group of medical graduates from Cuba signed a courageous letter addressed to US President Donald Trump. The letter denounces the escalation of hostile actions against Cuba, which affects people’s right to health and life.

Cuba is grateful for these displays of principle, sensitivity and commitment to justice, public health and international cooperation.
