Pretoria, Septiembre 16, 2020.- The important South African National Union of Mine Workers (NUM) made a donation of various supplies to contribute to Cuba's efforts in the fight against COVID-19.
On the occasion of the delivery of the donation at the headquarters of the Cuban Embassy in Pretoria, the head of the Union's International Relations, Patrick Mathebane, reiterated NUM's commitment to the Cuban people and recognized the important efforts that the Cuban government is carrying out to contain the coronavirus. He also emphasized that this donation is a modest contribution to Cuba's effort and a demonstration of special bonds of friendship and solidarity between the peoples of Cuba and South Africa.
The Minister Counselor of the Cuban Embassy Rebeca Hernández, thanked this noble and beautiful gesture on behalf of the Cuban people and government, while acknowledging the historical support of NUM to the Cuban people, expressed in strong statements condemning the criminal and illegal economic , commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government. She also recalled Cuba's eternal gratitude to NUM for the outstanding role of this Union in the campaign for the liberation of our Five Heroes.
The Organizer of the Association of Solidarity with Cuba in South Africa (FOCUS), Lefika Chetty, also participated in the donation ceremony, who also thanked the miners' Union for the gesture and described it as an example of the strong links that exist between the peoples of our countries.
