Havana, August 26, 2022.- On August 24, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) hosted a virtual meeting between Cuban specialists involved in the rehabilitation of the areas affected by the accident from the Matanzas Supertanker base, and US specialists from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
During the meeting, which took place in a professional and fruitful exchange environment, both parties discussed the possible ways of cooperation to achieve the rehabilitation of the most affected areas.
The Cuban delegation, made up of specialists from CITMA, the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Institute of Hydraulic Resources, addressed the main tasks undertaken since the fire was declared extinguished, an unprecedented event, Cuba has limited experience dealing with. Likewise, it asked the counterpart for its assessment of the actions already carried out and the possibility of accessing the most innovative techniques and procedures accumulated both by the EPA, as well as by companies linked to the oil sector and other agencies involved in these types of accidents.
