Statement by the Committee on International Relations of the National Assembly of People’s Power

Havana, 6 May 2026.

To parliamentarians, parliaments, and interparliamentary organizations

We, the deputies who are members of the International Relations Committee of the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba, reject the new Executive Order issued by the President of the United States, which intensifies the economic war and aims to further exacerbate the illegal and immoral collective punishment of the Cuban people.

This measure once again undermines our country’s sovereignty and self-determination, while further and more drastically internationalizing the blockade by pressuring and threatening third parties with additional secondary sanctions to prevent them from conducting commercial and financial transactions with Cuba.

As if this genocidal policy against the Cuban people, imposed more than six decades ago, were not enough, recent statements by the occupant of the White House accentuate the bellicose escalation by threatening to attack Cuba militarily.

Our people will continue to defend the political system that is sovereignly enshrined in the Constitution, approved in a universal referendum by the overwhelming majority of the Cuban people. It is an unquestionable decision to continue building a socialist society that works to achieve the greatest possible social justice.

Cubans have reaffirmed their support for independence, the socialist Revolution, and the Revolutionary Government through the “Signature for the Homeland” campaign, which gathered signatures from more than six million people—81% of those over the age of 16.

Cuba has historically demonstrated its firm commitment to peace. We reaffirm the principles of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, signed by the Heads of State and Government in Havana on the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) held in January 2014.

Just a few hours ago, the resolute march of more than five million men and women was felt as they filled the streets and squares during the celebration of International Workers’ Day, committed to defending the homeland and its sovereignty against the enemy that threatens and attacks it.

We, the Cuban deputies who represent the people, call on parliamentarians around the world to raise their voices to halt the growing military threat and the economic and energy blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba.

Those attending the recent International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, held in Havana on May 2, agreed that our homeland has the right to live in peace, to defend itself, and to develop, and that solidarity with it cannot be blocked.

The Final Declaration of the Meeting commended the Greater Antilles’ commitment to peace, agreed to denounce the escalation by the current U.S. Administration, and to intensify resistance and support for Cuba in the year of the Centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

Long live peace! No to war!

The homeland defends itself!

Homeland or death, we shall overcome!

International Relations Committee of the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba.
