Statement from Global Solidarity ICTU Committee on continued inclusion by US of Cuba on list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The ICTU condemns the continued inclusion by the US of Cuba on a list of state sponsors of terrorism, without any evidence whatsoever to justify this.

This is despite the fact that Cuba does not appear in a list of countries which do not fully cooperate in the fight against terrorism, issued by the US State Department recently.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently issued a statement which called for its removal from the US list of State sponsors of terrorism which it describes as unjust.

The Cuban economy has suffered severely as a result of its continued presence on the list, with consequential extreme hardship for the peoples of Cuba.

Far from being a sponsor of terrorism, Cuba has for decades been the victim of it, with over 3500 Cuban and other citizens being murdered by acts of terrorism, most of which originated in the US.

Congress calls on the US President Biden to use his prerogative, and do the decent thing, immediately remove Cuba from this list, and end the illegal blockade of that country.
