Cuban diplomat Miguel Manuel Fraga González assured this Thursday on national television that there is no reason for the United States Government to hinder Cuba's participation in the upcoming V World Baseball Classic.
His statements, offered to the morning magazine Buenos Días, of the Cubavisión channel, covered in detail the key points of the impact that the blockade policy has on the island's national sport.
Fraga, a specialist from the General Directorate of the United States of the Minrex, explained that Washington has just offered permission for the Cuban team to participate in the fair, scheduled from March 8 to 21.
However, it has not yet ruled on the authorization for players from the Island living in the United States and working in Major League Baseball (MLB) to be part of the roster.
The delay in the first permit has prevented the participation of Cuba in the preparation of the event to date, while the absence of the second affects the formation of the list of 50 athletes, a process that for the rest of the teams had as date on November 18 last.
Fraga classified as discriminatory that the United States (a foreign country) has to authorize Cuba and its players to intervene in an international event, sponsored by the world confederation of this sport and the MLB.
He assured that the hostility of the US government and the demolition of the historic agreement between the MLB and the Cuban Baseball Federation, by the Donald Trump administration, are the causes of this unequal treatment of Cuban baseball.
