Convoked by its Embassy in Tehran, Cuban residents in the Persian nation attended the third annual meeting held at the headquarters of the diplomatic mission.
The activity began with the singing of the national anthem, followed by the intervention of the Counselor in charge of Consular Affairs, Rebeca Fernández Núñez, who presented the program of the day and provided an update on the status and composition of the small Cuban community in Iran.
Afterward, Ambassador Vladimir González Quesada made a presentation on the recent events on the Island, with emphasis on the progress of updating the economic model and development of the process towards normalization of relations between Cuba and US, in which there are still important obstacles to be overcome such as the blockade. In this regard, he said that the vote last October 26th on Cuban draft resolution was another landslide victory, because it achieved 191 votes in favor, none against and only the abstentions of US and its ally Israel.
The Ambassador also referred to the current state of bilateral relations between Cuba and Iran, stressing that they have seen a significant boost with the recent exchanges of high level visits. Firstly, with the visit to Tehran of the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Economy and Planning, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, and then with successive stays in Havana of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and the President Hassan Rouhani.
Finally, Rebeca Fernandez proceeded to read the Final Declaration, which was signed by all attendees, and then they tasted a buffet prepared to share in the occasion.
