Canberra, 2 May 2024. The Third Secretary, Ivianes Gonzalez, participated in the celebration of Portuguese Language Day sponsored by the embassies of Brazil, Portugal and Timor Leste in Australia.
During the ceremony, typical dishes from the host countries were presented and those present enjoyed the excellent performance of the Portuguese duo Senza.
The date of World Portuguese Language Day was officially established in 2009 by the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) - an intergovernmental organization officially associated to UNESCO since 2000, which brings together those peoples who have the Portuguese language as one of the foundations of their specific identity - to celebrate the Portuguese language and Lusophone cultures. In 2019, the 40th session of UNESCO's General Conference decided to proclaim May 5 every year as "World Portuguese Language Day".
