Bloemfontein, February 4, 2026.- Comrades and friends of Cuba in the province of Free State paid heartfelt tribute to the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the foot of the statue built in his name in 2017 in the heart of the city.
This tribute is part of the activities that will take place around the world to commemorate the Commander's centenary and marks the beginning of those that will take place in South Africa.
The provincial leadership of the ANC, the Communist Party, COSATU, and the National Civic Organization (SANCO) present at the event reiterated their solidarity with the people and the Revolution of Fidel, especially in light of the recent threats made by Donald Trump's administration against the island. At the same time, they recognized Fidel's greatness and his invaluable contributions and leadership at the forefront of Cuba's participation in the struggles for the liberation of the continent.
The Cuban ambassador, for his part, thanked the comrades for their participation and acknowledged the excellent level of our bilateral ties, affirming that the presence of Cuba's friends at this event shows that the island is not alone.
