UK Fire Brigades Union reaffirms solidarity with Cuba.

London, 24 May 2024- Yesterday afternoon, the Second Secretary to the Cuban Embassy, Aymée Díaz Negrín, and the director of the Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC), Rob Miller, gave an update on the situation on the island to delegates at the annual Fire Brigades Union Conference taking place in the city of Blackpool this week.

In her speech, the Cuban diplomat recalled that Cuba continues to face an intensified blockade since the Trump administration with more than 243 measures, including the inclusion in the infamous and unilateral list of state sponsors of terrorism of the US State Department. At the same time, she took the opportunity to thank the traditional support of the Fire Brigades Union, especially the messages of support for the Cuban people after the explosion at the Saratoga Hotel in Havana and the fire at the Super tanker Base in Matanzas in 2022.

For his part, the director of the CSC, Rob Miller, mentioned the Campaign's priorities for the current year, which include the continuation of actions in favour of the exclusion of Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism and the fundraising campaign to send a container of medical supplies to the island.

The Union's General Secretary, Matt Wrack, stated that they will continue to support the lifting of the blockade and Cuba's right to sovereignty and self-determination.
