The Unduur (Daily News) newspaper published in its print and online editions an interview by journalist Ts. Otgonsuren with the Cuban ambassador to Mongolia, Jorge Ferrer, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of bilateral relations.
The Cuban ambassador briefly reviewed some of the notable activities that will take place within the framework of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Cuba. He recalled that these relations have resulted in approximately 140 to 150 excellent doctors, dentists, and other professionals graduating free of charge from Cuban universities.
He noted that Cuba has been subjected to the longest economic, commercial, and financial blockade in history by the United States, the world's leading power, since 1962 for choosing an independent and sovereign path.
Regarding places of interest to visit in Cuba, the diplomat emphasized that in addition to its idyllic beaches and kays—Varadero Beach has been selected by travelers for several years as one of the 10 best beaches in the world—Cuba is a multi-destination.
He added that the island ranks 4th in Latin America and 26th out of 190 countries on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its number of heritage sites, with 11 sites, thanks to the state of conservation.
He noted that Havana, founded in 1519 and selected as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2016, is home to the largest fortress in the Americas, San Carlos de la Cabaña (1774), and the oldest standing fortress, Castillo de la Real Fuerza (1577). It also has the second most important museum in the world dedicated to Napoleon, and perhaps the best museum dedicated to novelist Ernest Hemingway.
He also noted that the ancient town of Trinidad (454 km from Havana, founded in 1514) was awarded the title of Creative City of Crafts and Popular Arts in 2019 by UNESCO, and the title of World Craft City in 2018.
Regarding the media outlets covering Cuba, the Ambassador referred to Granma, the main Cuban print and digital newspaper, and the Prensa Latina news agency, or Latin American News Agency SA.
On Prensa Latina, he emphasized that it has permanent correspondents in 35 countries and distributes more than 350 news stories daily in Spanish, English, French, Russian, and Portuguese. He noted that Prensa Latina has some 100 cooperation agreements, including one with the Mongolian news agency MONTSAME, signed during its president, Luis Enrique González, who visited Ulaanbaatar in 2019.
He concluded that Cuba's unique blend of culture, cuisine, intoxicating cocktails and music, history and natural beauty, lively streets, friendly people, vibrant atmosphere, and the lush seas and surrounding beaches are the country's greatest attractions.
