United States-Cuba bilateral relations in a new global scenario

The XX edition of Conversations Cuba in the Foreign Policy of the United States of America began from the Higher Institute of International Relations (ISRI), with the presence of the rector Rogelio Sierra Díaz, the director of the Center for International Policy Research (CIPI) Dr. .C. José Ramón Cabañas Rodríguez and the special intervention of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr.C. Carlos Fernandez de Cossio.

The vice minister addressed the main topics that characterize the relations of the United States with Cuba in the current scenario, the permanence and intensification of the Blockade as the main factor in the deterioration of economic conditions and its impact on emigration in Cuba.

The world scenario has changed, the conflict in Europe is a new challenge, with which it is intended to divide the world in two. In the region of the Americas, very important political changes are evident, but also a tendency towards destabilization with the participation of the OAS. There have been no perceptible changes in relations between the United States and Cuba.

Bilateral steps have been taken by both governments in migratory cooperation under bilateral agreements of several decades, and it should be noted that they must be examined. But due to the increase in the irregular migratory phenomenon, communication and cooperation are required, which is why this year there were two rounds of productive talks that confirmed the validity and importance of the agreements and the mutual political commitment was ratified.

The current government of the United States has been the most aggressive and the most effective of the previous administrations, since it has maintained the policy of maximum pressure, keeping the measures of the Trump government intact, along with a discourse that underhandedly shows its true intentions. In recent weeks, he has alerted governments in the region not to accept Cuban medical cooperation on the assumption that they are engaging in slavery practices.

This fulfills the objective of discrediting Cuban international medical cooperation and preventing legitimate financial compensation from countries that are more developed than Cuba, in order to deprive the island of the income of economic resources.

President Biden can put an end to the coercive measures, the persecution of fuel export and transport companies, all aimed at depriving Cuba of Oil, which has had a profound impact on the deterioration of current economic conditions.
