The Unity Labour Party (ULP) reaffirms its solidarity with Cuba and strongly rejects U.S. aggressions against the island’s sovereignty

Kingstown, February 9, 2026 – The Unity Labour Party (ULP), the opposition party in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, issued an official statement expressing its firm and continued support for the Cuban people and categorically condemning the recent political and economic aggressions by the United States against the Republic of Cuba, emphasizing the importance of respect for sovereignty and the self-determination of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the statement, the ULP stressed that the unilateral actions of the United States—including sanctions, political pressure, and destabilization campaigns—constitute a violation of international law, undermine the principles of sovereign respect among states, and place regional peace and stability at risk.

The statement underscores that Cuba has historically faced coercive policies that have affected its economy and the well-being of its people, and that these measures not only violate human rights but also contravene the principles of the Charter of the United Nations. This position aligns with numerous resolutions and multilateral pronouncements in international forums that have called for an end to the U.S. blockade and for respect for Cuba’s independence.

The ULP also highlighted that cooperation among Caribbean countries, including solidarity with Cuba in the areas of health, education, and social development, is vital to addressing common challenges and promoting a strong, autonomous, and united Caribbean.

In its message, the ULP called on CARICOM member states and the international community to uphold the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other states and to strengthen mechanisms for dialogue and peaceful cooperation rather than resorting to threats or coercion.

The statement concludes by reiterating the ULP’s commitment to international justice and regional solidarity, as well as to respect for sovereign relations between Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Cuba, and other states of the Caribbean and Latin America (Embassy of Cuba to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines/Cubaminrex)
