Unity of purpose key for Cuba, Zambia’s progress – Correa

By The Mast, Charles Tembo in Ndola, on January 31, 2019. DAVIES Mwila says the ruling Patriotic Front and the Communist Party of Cuba have a long-standing relationship anchored on their shared philosophy of unity in diversity and pro-poor policies.

And Cuban Ambassador to Zambia told Mwila that, “With unity and solidarity, we can stand against any hostile regime.”

According to PF deputy media director Antonio Mwanza, Mwila paid a courtesy call on Cuban Ambassador to Zambia Francisco Javier Viamontes Correa at the Cuban Embassy in Lusaka, to deepen and broaden ties between the two parties. “The ruling Patriotic Front and the ruling Communist Party of Cuba have a long standing relationship anchored on their shared philosophy of unity in diversity and pro-poor policies,” Mwila said.

He thanked the Cuban people and the Cuban government for their support not only to the Patriotic Front but to Zambia as a whole. Mwila cited the over 100 medical doctors that the Cuban government had sent to Zambia to assist in the provision of quality healthcare services to the Zambian people among others.

“Your Excellency, we appreciate the warm and cordial relations owing to our strong political and economic cooperation. The Communist Party and Patriotic Front have had successful exchange programmes aimed at building the intellectual and strategic capacity of our youths and we must deepen and broaden areas of co-operation to enhance political and economic development,” said Mwila, the PF secretary general.

The duo pledged to continue exploring areas of collaboration for the benefit of both parties.

And Ambassador Correa expressed gratitude to Mwila for paying a courtesy call on him. He assured Mwila of the Communist Party of Cuba’s commitment to strengthening and broadening areas of cooperation between the two parties.

“Unity of purpose is key in order for our two countries to make any form of progress. With unity and solidarity, we can stand against any hostile regime,” said Ambassador Correa. “Without unity you cannot fight and conquer. As the Communist Party, we have lots of programmes for youths and we have to continue working together for the benefit of our two peoples and parties.”

Last year in April, President Edgar Lungu declared then Cuban Ambassador Nelson Pages persona non grata for attending the launch of the newly-formed Socialist Party (Zambia). The envoy had conveyed the Communist Party of Cuba’s good wishes to the Socialist Party. But the PF government claimed Ambassador Pages had breached diplomatic ethics, practice and standards by his action.
