Cork, October 2018. Alexis, as we Cubans affectionately call him, offered his contagious art of improvisation to the city of Cork, in the south of Ireland, in front of students, academics and the general public.
The performance of the outstanding Cuban artist took place within the framework of the Latin American Days at the University of Cork. After some presentations of the art and history of Argentina, Brazil and Peru, it was the turn of offering a piece of “cubanía” to the audience that frequents the Latin American Days organized by the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies of the UCC.
Díaz Pimienta spoke about Cuban poetry and especially about the art of improvisation, of which he is undoubtedly one of our best exponents.
His “décimas” and “seguidillas” captivated the present public.
As part of the academic exchange, Alexis as a teacher, after sharing experiences with UCC professors, donated several of his books to the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies.
