Vice President of the European Parliament calls the blockade against Cuba anachronistic

PE

Brussels, June 21, 2022.- The Vice President of the European Parliament Pina Picierno described this Tuesday as anachronistic the blockade that the United States imposes on Cuba and demanded its end, upon receiving the Secretary of the Island's National Assembly, Homero Acosta. The member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats also rejected during the meeting in this capital the suffering that Washington's economic, commercial and financial blockade has caused the Cuban people for decades.

Picierno also lamented in the conversations with Acosta, who is also secretary of the Council of State, the impact on the Antillean nation of the Covid-19 pandemic, effects that were combined with the tightening of the US blockade.

For his part, the Cuban deputy recognized the position of his host against a blockade that has lasted more than 60 years and that also affects, with its extraterritorial nature, European companies, banks and citizens. In the European Parliament, the head of the Caribbean country's parliamentary delegation, other members of the same, such as deputies Estela Cristina Luna and Luis Morlote, and diplomats led by ambassador Yaira Jiménez, spoke with several MEPs.

Members of the Group of Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba in the European Parliament took advantage of the fraternal and pleasant meeting to ratify their condemnation of the US blockade and recognize the support given by the Island to other countries in confronting the pandemic.
